Tips on How You Can Stop Laminate Flooring from Bubbling

January 6, 2023

The less expensive alternative to hardwood flooring is laminate. It combines laminate toughness with the organic appearance of wood. But laminate flooring also has disadvantages.

Given that laminate contains some wood, it is vulnerable to moisture damage, which can lead to a variety of issues. One of those issues is bubbling.

Many homeowners complain about bubbling floors but are unsure of the source or the best way to cure them. Along with bubbling, warping, dents, and scratches are some common laminate flooring problems.

However, regular upkeep and cleaning will guarantee that your laminate flooring serves you as long as possible. If you want your laminate floor to last, you must fix the bubbling and stop it before it even starts.

The following are suggestions for resolving and avoiding the issue.

Tip #1

Determine whether a particular section of the floor is harmed or if only one board is bubbling by inspecting the impacted region. If only one board is generating issues, it’s possible that its layer has become less cohesive.

Tip #2

Remove the damaged board after replacing the wall molding with a screwdriver or hammer. If your flooring is snap and lock, all that has to be done is to lift the damaged board.

Tip #3

Obtain a fresh board to replace the bubbled one. To avoid an uneven-looking floor, be sure to purchase the matching board.

Tip #4

Make sure the floor is sealed after replacing the damaged board to prevent further moisture intrusion or direct water damage.

Tip #5

If your laminate flooring is glued down, be sure to remove any extra adhesive after putting in the new board.

Tip #6

A snap-and-lock system makes replacement and maintenance simpler. Simply take out the damaged board, assess the subfloor’s moisture content, and determine whether the locking mechanism is secure enough.

Tip #7

The cause is a subpar product if bubbles are visible on a sizable portion of the floor. In that situation, it is advised to install a high-quality laminate floor in place of the current one.

Tip #8

Making the veneers malleable will enable them to be mended if they are loose. The veneer will become more malleable if you iron it while covering it with a damp towel. Ensure that it does not break or sustain any harm during the process.

Put a good wood glue underneath the veneer and clamp it down to secure it. To avoid marring during the procedure, place cardboard between the laminate surface and the clamp.

Tip #9

Minor bubbles can be burst to eliminate them. Cut a slit on the bubbling region with a sharp knife and cover it with a damp cloth. Open a slit in the veneer, insert wood glue, and press the veneer into place. Overnight, place a weight on it to completely flatten it.

Tip #10

Placing a weight on it throughout the night will help to partly flatten it if the bubbling is brought on by peaking.

Peaking results from expansion; thus, the edges must be slightly shortened to provide room for the board when the bubbling has been flattened. The space required can also be made by removing the molding that surrounds it.

Conclusion

Make sure to keep furniture and other heavy objects off the floor, and use furniture pads or other protective mats to keep them from scratching the floor. Also, ensure that your floor is not exposed to moisture or water for extended periods of time.
